Brandon Ratcliff & Suzanne Cox Release “Far Side Banks of Jordan”

Louisiana roots run deep in Brandon Ratcliff’s story, but now they feel especially full-circle.

The Cotton Valley native has spent the past several years building his own lane in country music, from his Monument Records breakout “Rules of Breaking Up” to touring with major artists and releasing his debut album Tale of Two Towns. In 2023, he also reached another major milestone with his Grand Ole Opry debut.

But long before any of that, Ratcliff grew up surrounded by one of Louisiana’s most respected musical legacies. His mother, Suzanne Cox, is a member of The Cox Family, the Grammy-winning Cotton Valley group whose harmonies helped make them one of the most beloved names in bluegrass, gospel, and country circles. Their work with Alison Krauss on I Know Who Holds Tomorrow earned a Grammy, and the family’s music also reached a wider audience through O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Now, the mother and son duo have officially released “Far Side Banks of Jordan,” a song that feels less like a one-off collaboration and more like a passing of something sacred between generations. Brandon recently told Louisiana Country Music Live that the songs he’s been sharing with his mom started simply from singing together at home, without pressure or expectation, and that the response helped lead them toward recording music as a duo.

That history is what makes this release land. It is not just a new song. It is a Louisiana family tradition showing up in a new season, with Brandon bringing his own voice and perspective while Suzanne brings the depth, harmony, and heritage that have shaped him from the beginning.
