Louisiana music and Louisiana spirits don't cross paths every day, but when they do, it's worth raising a glass. That's exactly what happened when Sugarfield Spirits, a distillery in Gonzales, partnered with CJ Solar to create a bourbon inspired by his song Black Label Blues.

A Song Becomes A Bottle

Black Label Blues is the lead single and title track from Solar's forthcoming album under his rebranded name, CJ Solar and the Old Souls. The song leans into bluesy guitar riffs and soulful background vocals, and Solar has described it as a clear introduction to the sound of the full record, a return to the swampy soul and blues-drenched roots that shaped him growing up in Baton Rouge.

To mark the release, Solar partnered with Sugarfield Spirits to craft a limited run of just 70 bottles of Black Label Blues bourbon, finished in orange liqueur barrels. The collaboration turned a song title into a keepsake fans could hold, sip, and connect back to the music itself.

The Sugarfield Connection

Sugarfield Spirits has been producing vodka, rum, bourbon, and liqueurs from its home at 481 W. Eastbank Street in Gonzales since opening in January 2020. The distillery offers tours, a tasting room, and a gift shop, making it a natural gathering point for a hometown celebration.

Meet, Greet, And Bottle Signing

To celebrate the release, Solar hosted a meet, greet, and bottle signing at the distillery on Saturday, May 9, at noon. Fans were invited to hang out with CJ and the band, pick up a bottle from the limited run, and get it signed, a hands-on way to connect the song with the spirit behind it. The event tied directly into his relaunch tour.

A Day Inside Sugarfield

The Louisiana Country Music team had the chance to see the Sugarfield operation up close with a tour of the distillery. The day included a tasting of the lineup and plenty of time getting to know the Sugarfield team, whose passion for the craft and for Louisiana made the visit a highlight.

Why It Matters For Louisiana Country Music

Collaborations like this one show how Louisiana artists are building connections beyond the stage, linking their music to local businesses and giving fans new ways to engage with a song. For CJ Solar, a Baton Rouge native, the Sugarfield partnership is another example of an artist leaning into his roots and being supported by a home state business as he steps into this next chapter of his career.

As Solar's new album rolls out, the Black Label Blues bourbon stands as a reminder of what can happen when Louisiana artists and Louisiana businesses build something together.
