On August 13, 1991, Brooks & Dunn released their debut album, Brand New Man, and introduced the world to a duo that would go on to become the best-selling country act of all time.


Produced by Don Cook and Scott Hendricks, the album paired Louisiana native Kix Brooks with Ronnie Dunn, two seasoned honky-tonk veterans who had spent years working club circuits in Texas, Oklahoma, and Nashville before Arista Records (now Sony Music Nashville) brought them together in 1990. Brand New Man announced their arrival in dramatic fashion, going on to sell seven million copies and earn a 7x Multi-Platinum certification from the RIAA.


The album's staying power comes down to its run of hit singles. Four tracks in a row hit Number One on the Billboard country charts: the title track "Brand New Man," which made the duo only the second act in history to send its debut single to Number One; "My Next Broken Heart"; "Neon Moon," the smoky honky-tonk ballad that remains one of their signature songs; and the dance floor favorite "Boot Scootin' Boogie." A fifth single, "Lost and Found," rounded out the album's chart run, peaking at Number 6.


Three and a half decades later, Brand New Man still holds up as one of the defining records of '90s country, a debut that set the bar for everything Brooks & Dunn would go on to accomplish.



Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn marked the album's 35th anniversary with a special appearance at the Grand Ole Opry, alongside the announcement that Brand New Man is getting its first-ever vinyl pressing, arriving October 23, 2026, with pre-orders available now on the official Brooks & Dunn website.
